Jim Allan - Professional Profile

1975- 77

 

Created, managed the first art department for Allegheny County Planning Department, Pittsburgh, Pa. One of my duties was to build models of the Allegheny County and Greater Pittsburgh International Airports.

 

1976

 

I build a model of the Pittsburgh Gimbels Department Store. This model was used in a Christmas promotion. The Model appears as a Christmas gift and the package dissolves and reveals the model.

 

1977-79

 

Created and managed the Graphics & Print Shop for the Allegheny County where I supervised 13 artists and 12 printers.

 

1979-81

 

Co-created Allan & Wilson Animation Studio coordinating production work for the half-hour HBO special, "Allison & the Magic Bubble."

 

1981-82

 

Managed the production, "A Star for Jeremy" a half-hour TV children's special for Showtime and network TV.

 

1982-90

 

Allan & Wilson Animation Studio and Anivision Ltd. Produced dozens of TV commercials, for Heinz, Weight Watchers, etc., animation for feature film, "Creepshow", Creepshow 2", "Evil Dead 2", etc. and animation for Tom Petty's music video "Runnin' down a Dream." I built a model museum for a TV commercial for a lawyer referral service and a set used in the movie "Evil Dead 2."

 

1990-03

Instructor, The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I teach traditional animation, Models and Miniatures construction and Airbrush Illustration.
